Our College

Raja Shri Krishna Dutt Post Graduate College is the most ancient and premier college in Jaunpur. It is popularly known as Raj College. This institute was amongst three oldest academic institutions in Uttar Pradesh. It is located in the densely populated area of the city between the Atala Mosque and the historic Royal Fort.

It has about 52 well qualified professors, who are well known for their knowledge and teaching skills. Almost all of them are engaged in research work in various fields. The college has strength of about four thousand (4000) students in different disciplines.

Our college is known for its innovative methods of teaching and the quality of research work. We provide education in various faculties: Faculty of Science, Faculty of Arts, Faculty of Education (Teachers’ training), and Faculty of Commerce. Guest lectures, seminars, webinars, and training courses are organized regularly to develop skills and train students as per the need of the hour.

Historical Background

The college was founded by Raja Bal Dutt in 1841 as a missionary school. He provided land and funds to begin the institute. Later, Raja Shri Krishna Dutt upgraded it from primary level to high school. Raja Yadvendra Dutt further developed the institution into a postgraduate level.

It became a Degree College in July 1959. Dr. Akhilesh Chand Upadhyay was its first principal. The status of Post Graduate College was granted in 1996 under the leadership of Dr. B. B. Dubey and guidance of Raja Yadvendra Dutt Dubey. Raja Yadvendra Dutt also supported the college financially and donated several properties for development.

The college owns five major properties across Jaunpur:

  • Main Campus: Near Atala Mosque – Arts & Education Faculties
  • Rasmandal Campus: Faculty of Science & Commerce
  • Raja Yadvendra Dutt Central Library: Near Hindi Bhawan
  • Nootan Hostel & Sports Ground: Near Bhandari Railway Station
  • Dharmapur Campus: 14+ acres with a garden and a temple of Lord Shiva

Location and Accessibility

The college is located at the bank of the Holy River Gomti. It is about 300 meters from Jaunpur Fort and directly opposite the famous Atala Mosque. Well connected by road and rail, it’s 1 km from Jaunpur Junction and 5 km from Jaunpur City Station.
